National Travel Card, Sweden

During the period 2006-2009, Arcontia equipped FARA Sweden with 1,500 contactless smart card validators for use in their ticketing system in Sweden. The scope of the rollout included a number of counties and regions, as well as onboard all airport buses in 8 cities through the country. The Arcontia validators were designed to comply with the Swedish National Travel Card standard, REKO.

The aim of the REKO Travel Card is to make it possible to travel across counties adn regions in Sweden using a single MIFARE card. Passenger will be able to travel on services run by different operators, making it easier and more convenient to travel by public transport. Not only can travellers use the card as a means of payment, but they can also store season ticket or other type of tickets on the card, as well as to load the e-purse.

There are currently five different suppliers who develop and supply ticket and fare management systems in Sweden, based on the authority's "Resekortet" technical specification.
